Recap: New York Fashion Week SS'13

New York Fashion Week came to a close last week, which means we finally get to recuperate from an intense seven-days of fashion shows, celebrity sitings, front row drama, and of course, the after parties. We saw many exciting new collections from talented designers and here our top hottest trends  spotted down the runway for Spring 2013.

Futuristic Cutouts

Bold cutouts are here to stay.  Quite a few designers have taken cutouts to a dramatic futuristic level with a slight tribal feel.   Donna Karen (far right) showcased some intricate organic cutouts, like this delicate, coral-esque piece. Hervé Léger by Max Azria (far left) and Vivienne Tam (middle left) added color and shine to their tribal like cutout deigns.

Alexander Wang (middle right) set a new bar with his futuristic clean cutouts – you can be sure to see his pieces everywhere next spring!

Prints on Prints

Prints are back with a new twist: mixing prints with different prints and even textures too!  Bold colors and softer colors were mixed with big and small prints.  Derek Lam’s red prints(far left) and Mara Hoffman’s beach look showcase both the bold and big prints. Vera Wang and Catherine Malandrino (far right) opted for subtler, smaller prints.

Sheer Mesh

Sheer makes anything looks sexy but also soft and feminine. It allows us to show a little skin without overdoing it. This season we are seeing lots of paneling with meshes in either simple designs or detailed paneling.  Victoria Beckham (middle left), Rachel Comey (middle right), and Charlotte Ronson (far left) all showed dresses that had the shoulders and upper chest exposed for a delicate, feminine look.  Jason Wu (far right) went for an edgier look with a leather and mesh jacket.
