The cape, which we have mostly seen as jackets on past runways, is now being transformed and designed with dresses and tops. Maybe it’s inspiration from The Game of Thrones or Snow White and the Huntsman, but whatever it is, we love it! As seen in the latest Fall 2012 Couture shows, designers are making beautiful garments incorporating the cape look. Giambattista Valli (far left) incorporated a subtle cape that flows beautifully with the vibrant green of the dress. Stephane Rolland (middle) went for a classic look, featuring the cape paired with sleek, simple designs. Alexis Mabille (far right) took a more dramatic route and incorporated capes with dress with big shoulders and fine detailing.
We have seen a few celebrities strutting their stuff and showing off their cape dresses and tops! As you can see, these girls keep their look simple by not over accessorizing. Wear a great pair of shoes, find the perfect clutch, and pair a piece of jewelry to wear and you are ready to go! This look can go from casual (like Heidi Range- far left- in a cute orange cape dress) to red carpet (like Gwyneth Paltrow’s (far right) gorgeous Tom Ford cape dress and Diane Kruger’s black embellished cape dress). A cape top (as seen on Rachel Roy) can also serve as a daytime and nighttime piece.
The key to wearing this trend is to have the cape be the focal point and accessorize accordingly. Simple. Chic. Stylish.
