Lorenz Baumer: the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Haute Joaillerie

I recently had the great opportunity to attend a talk with Lorenz Baumer, hosted by fi:af, the French Institute Alliance Francaise.  For those who may not recognize his name, Lorenz Baumer is considered to be one of the most talented jewelry designer of our generation.

Needless to say, Louis Vuitton only hires the best of the best and brought him on board as the creative director of LV haute joaillerie.

At the same time, while serving as the creative director at LV, Lorenz Baumer continues to produce over 200-300 creations per year for his own collection, Lorenz Baumer Joaillerie.

I am not sure how he does it, but seriously he is my role model!

What is not as well known is that Lorenz Baumer has a long history of working with other luxury houses,  such as designing costume jewelry for CHANEL for 20 years to designing the signature lipstick case for Guerlain.

I was very impressed by the fact that he designed Guerlain’s amazing lipstick case!

Lorenz Baumer is indeed a multi-talented designer.  He considers himself to be an engineer,  a gardener, a poet, an architect and a designer.   His work is inspired by many things from nature, to contemporary art and architecture but more often than not, it is his clients who inspire his most amazing pieces.

According to Lorenz Baumer, BIG is still the dominant trend for jewelry.  He mentioned that there is a 30 carat diamond, cut into a shape of Louis Vuitton’s flower monogram, that is available for sale!  🙂  I wish they showed a picture of that rock!

I was definitely in awe to have the pleasure of meeting my role model.  Here are additional pictures from the event:
